Climate Bar Association event – University of Galway – 10 October 2024
Dear Colleagues,
The Climate Bar Association (Comhshaol) is a specialist bar event of the Bar of Ireland.
Louise Beirne of Comhshaol has been in touch about an event they are hosting on Thursday 10th October 2024 at the University of Galway at 4pm on the environmental protection of rivers and lakes.
Judge Elizabeth Maguire of the Circuit Court has kindly agreed to chair the event and will attend at the University from 4.00 pm onwards. The event is in association with the Irish Centre for Human Rights, University of Galway.
The event will debate the role of environmental law in achieving clean rivers and lakes and to discuss, in particular, whether non-confrontational methods of resolving disputes, such as mediation or arbitration, have a role to play. The event will be of interest to the legal community and people interested in environmental rights in Galway and beyond.
The event will start with a rehearsed reading of the new play ‘River Mountain’ by Gearoid Mac Unfraidh SC followed by a panel discussion of legal experts, chaired by Judge Maguire, including
- Clíona Kimber SC
- Dr Rónan Kennedy, School of Law
- Peader O’Maoláin BL
- Michael O’Connor SC
It is part of Comhshaol’s mission to link the practice of law with the wider legal community and with public debate generally. This event is the fourth in their 2024 programme of events in North, South, East and West of Ireland as part of the Bar of Ireland year or natural justice.
